Naval Action Privateer

Vicious small scale privateer action in the English Channel erupted at outbreak of war in 1793. But a 32-gun frigate, HMS Juno, was at hand to intervene. A single-ship action is a naval engagement fought between two warships of opposing sides, excluding submarine engagements; called so because there is a single ship on each side. The following is a list of notable single-ship actions.

General Description

The Prince De Neufchatel is a fast and well-armed 20-gun schooner, unique for carrying both bow and stern chasers considering her speed. She is the only ship in the game to split her gun deck's armament, her four aftermost gunports can only support carronades. The vessel has an excellent turnrate giving her the possibility to be a lethal weapon against ships of the line who cannot outturn her, making them vulnerable to sternrakes.

Characteristics

The Prince de Neufchatel is unique for a ship it's class in the area that it has a considerable speed at all wind angles due to its rigging. It'a best point of sail is ~90 degrees from the wind. It has an excellent turnrate. Through the use of manual sails this ship has an extraordinary acceleration and deceleration. It is able to sail stop and even sail backwards at all wind angles if manual sailing is used properly in a matter of seconds. This characteristic is especially useful for boarding where the Prince can act almost like a rock infront of another vessel.

The Prince de Neufchatel has a very weak bowsprit. Ramming into an enemy vessel can cause a potential rigging shock. Thus during a boarding an experienced enemy can perform a seemlessly harmless turn but break off the Prince's bowsprit, crippling it considerably.

History

Cradle of empires game for pc. The Prince de Neufchatel was a fast sailing United States schooner-rigged privateer, built in New York by Adam and Noah Brown in approximately 1812. She is a fine example of the peak of development of the armed schooner. Neufchatel operated in mainly European waters, damaging British shipping during the War of 1812. Noted for her speed, at one time she outran seventeen men-of-war. In 1813, operating in the English channel, she took nine British prizes in quick succession. She also delivered a crushing defeat to the boats of a British frigate that tried to capture her. The British finally captured her in December 1814; she was broken up in 1815.

Combat and gunneryRealistic ballistics and cannon performance of the period. Every cannonball is tracked in the air and after it hits the target. One shot can hit the stern, damage the rudder, then hit the cannon carriage, injure crew, ricochet from the floor and hit the opposite side. Nonstop knight. Listing and wind affects the shooting distance and will require change of tactics.Weapons: All major types of naval artillery are implemented: from long guns to carronades, and mortars (of course limited by the ship role and its hull).

Fort and land batteries provide support during port battles. You can also turn your ship into a brander by using special fittings. Sailing AND DAMAGE MODELNaval action has probably the best representation of the age of sail combat mechanics.Advanced wind and physics model provides for realistic portrayal of ship’s performance in the age of sail. Yard angles, ship angle to wind, cargo, fittings and ship condition affects speeds and turning rates. Correct tacking, boxhauling, clubhauling and other elements of the age of sail sailing are possible.Damage model: Leaks, splinters, loose cannons, demasting, raking, fires and all other hazards possible in that era. Damaged ship fittings and modules will change behavior of the ship.
